摘要:During my seminar, I will discuss about the creation of transistors and electronic switches without semiconductors. These devices are based on quantum tunneling, potentially bypass most if not all the above-mentioned limitation. Specifically, I will discuss about room temperature tunneling FETs by metallic quantum dots functionalized boron nitride nanotubes (QDs-BNNTs). These QDs-BNNTs can also be designed for use in flexible electronics. Finally, graphene-BNNTs heterojunctions are also created to convert metallic graphene into digital switches. All these results are made possible after the success in controlled synthesis of high-quality BNNTs by catalytic chemical vapor deposition (CCVD) .

报告人简介Dr. Yoke Khin Yap is a professor of physics, and the director of Applied Physics graduate program at Michigan Technological University (MTU). He earned his Ph.D. in 1999 from Osaka University as a “Monbusho” scholar under the sponsorship of the Japanese government. Professor Yap was a Fellow of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) before his faculty appointment at MTU. In 2005, Professor Yap was honored by the U.S. National Science Foundation CAREER Award. In 2008, Professor Yap served as the first elected Chair of the user group of the Center for Nanophase Materials Sciences (CNMS) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). In 2010, Professor Yap served as the MRS task force member to prepare input to the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) for a revised Strategic Plan for the National Nanotechnology Initiative (NNI). In 2011, Professor Yap received the MTU Bhakta Rath Research Award. In 2014 to 2016, Professor Yap was appointed as a faculty fellow in the Office of Vice President for Research for his mission in promoting excellent research at MTU. Professor Yap is honored as an Osaka University Global Fellow in 2015 and the MTU research award in 2018.
