  Solar cells based on Organic Materials such as polymers or small molecules fight against many important hurdles imposed by fundamental physics, but are nevertheless able to produce electric power with up to 10% conversion efficiency. This is possible due to a very high degree of control of the photochemical properties of the organic components, their morphology and organization at different lengths scales, and thanks to a deep understanding of the elementary photo-physical processes that convert photons into charge pairs or bipolarons and eventually free carriers. By reviewing milestone papers recently published in the field, the lecture will present the progress made in the past years on the molecular energy conversion processes, in particular by an elegant combination of chemical design, ultrafast spectroscopy, nanophotonics and modeling. We will also highlight the inter-disciplinary character of the research, embedding the quest for fundamental physics and optics in a feedback loop with chemists and electrical engineers.

 

  学者简介: 

  Prof. Stefan Haacke received a PhD in Physics from the Joseph Fourier University Grenoble (France) in 1994. He was then post-doc and assistant professor at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne where he worked with Beno?t Deveaud and later Majed Chergui on Ultrafast Processes in semiconductor nanostructures, polymers, and photo-active proteins. In 1999, he was awarded the ABB prize by the Swiss Physical Society, followed by the career development grant "PROFIL-2". Since his appointment at the University of Strasbourg in 2004, S.H. and his team have established and a competitive research activity on ultrafast spectroscopy of biomolecules, biomimetic systems and nanomaterials for light-energy conversion, including R&D on ultrafast laser sources and instrumentation in partnership with private companies. He has published 114 papers, with key publications in Science and PNAS. Prof. Haacke is the director of the Strasbourg Institute for Physics and Chemistry of Materials (IPCMS), and serves in many national and international committees, including the advisory board of the Int. Conf. on Photochemistry and program committee for CLEO Europe.
